Hotel Refurbishment Case Study - The Whiskey Bar
Sofitel - Amsterdam

In this instance, the hotel realised that they had redundant space which could be used as a guest bar. The hotel is set in the heart of historic Amsterdam, and the atmosphere would have to reflect the local style and atmosphere of the ‘brown bars’ typical of the city. |

Detailed research was completed with Robert-Jan Woltering the general manager of the hotel, and Richard Nottage representing the owners-see photo in a bar. Working with the design team of Heinekin, a plan was conceived to use old shop fittings from a Dutch apothecary. TWP brought the old fittings back from Holland, dismantled the panels and created a new bar, taking trouble to make any new components match the older Mahogany parts. Once installed, our polishers ‘married in’ the old with the new, distressing the new timber to match the wear of the old.
Despite its old appearance, all the modern requirements of refrigeration, sinks, glass washers, and stainless steel storage were incorporated into the installation.
