Bespoke design for commercial units - Inventive ways of organising space
The Problem
Commercial units are flexible spaces and can be repurposed to fit the ever adapting nature of your business, expanding into new sectors or improving on an existing objective.
Planning this space effectively and then developing a new structure or layout to support the new direction is a challenging process, and if not completed sympathetically with the existing surroundings, can prove to be damaging to the original business.
The Solution
TWP Designs plan and install specialist areas within existing commercial units and offices with an understanding of the relationship between the new area and the existing space.
For example, when VW decided to enter the luxury car market, they looked for an adaptable partner to help them install specialist sales outlets in existing showrooms. Our work for Ferrari dealers had been noticed and we won the contract after a long selection process.
A full-size prototype room was built and then re-installed at the VW Midlands distribution centre-compete with an early production Phaeton car.
32 sites were completed around the UK. The responsibilities were considerable and every aspect had to fit in with the exacting VW group’s requirements. Each site had to look the same as the others, but each one was different. After a detailed survey, plans were submitted for approval and then the complicated logistical task started.
A new storage facility was developed so that we could store the special display items, many of which came directly from the VW appointed suppliers. These included enormous glass display cabinets, special leather sample cases and luxury curved white settees. The glass and walnut components were fabricated in our own workshops, and then the fitting team moved in for a week’s installation session.
